    Gilbert talks about his guns
    Gilbert's statement released today:

"I appreciated the opportunity to meet with law enforcement officials today. As the person who caused this trouble in the first place, I thought it was my duty to be the first witness to come forward and meet with the prosecutors and detectives. I told my attorney I wanted to get in for an interview as soon as we could arrange it, and that was today.

I told the detectives and prosecutors the whole story about my storing the unloaded guns at the Verizon Center and what I was intending to do when I took them out of my locker on December 21st.

As I have said before, I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia, but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids. I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the DC gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District.

On Monday, December 21st, I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate. Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone.

Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong. I should not have brought the guns to DC in the first place, and I now realize that there's no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns — even if unloaded.

I am very sorry for the effect that my serious lapse in judgment has had on my team, my teammates, the National Basketball Association and its fans. I want to apologize to everybody for letting them down with my conduct, and I promise to do better in the future.

I also want to thank the detectives and prosecutors on the case for the professionalism and courtesy they showed me during the interview today. I stand ready to continue to give my full cooperation to them and to the League as they investigate this incident."

More of Arenas and his guns
This time, a report that Arenas and Javaris Crittendon pulled guns on each other during a locker room argument over a gambling debt. Of course, the story was first reported by the NY Post, so probably should take it with a grain of salt.

Report: Arenas, Crittenton pull guns on each other

NEW YORK (AP)—Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve locker room argument over a gambling debt, according to The New York Post.

Citing an anonymous source, the newspaper reported in Friday’s edition that the standoff was sparked when Crittenton became angry at Arenas for refusing to make good on a gambling debt. That prompted Arenas to draw on Crittenton, who then also grabbed for a gun, league security sources told the Post.

Asked by the Post about the confrontation, Arenas denied pulling a gun on Crittenton.

“This is unprecedented in the history of sports,” Billy Hunter, executive director of the Player’s Association, told the Post. “I’ve never heard of players pulling guns on each other in a locker room.”

The Wizards said on the night of Dec. 24 that Arenas had stored unloaded firearms in a container in his locker at the arena and that the NBA was looking into the situation. On Tuesday, Washington, D.C. police said they were investigating a report that weapons were found inside a locker room at the Verizon Center.

Now, the federal government is also involved. Ben Friedman, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in DC, told the Post “we’re working with the Metropolitan Police Department on the investigation.”

    Rockets shopping TMac
The Rockets have granted Tracy McGrady indefinite leave from the team (translation: we don't want you here, go away), and are looking to trade him. TMac had been averaging about 8 minutes a game since his comeback from microfracture, and the Rockets were not willing to commit to giving him more court time.

And, apparently, the Rockets are against a buyout of his expiring contract, and are willing to hang onto him until the end of the season if they can't make a satisfactory trade.

TMac has spent so much of his career as that injured guy, that it's easy to forget how explosive he used to be, so here's a little blast from the past:

LeBron's new kicks show a lot of New York Love

    Sauce

There's no denying that superstar Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James loves New York. The first tip-off to Clevelanders was the infamous wearing of the New York Yankees cap at an Indians playoff game. Since then, he's wasted no time reminding us all of just how much he loves NY, all while denying the ever-rampant rumors that he will be packing up and heading to the Big Apple when his contract in Cleveland expires at the end of this season. Leaked photos of an upcoming release of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Low shoes send a clear message of love for NY, not the home of Rock n Roll or the town that supported him since his pre-NBA days.

This season, Nike also revealed the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Hardwood Classic edition shoes, which to those unfamiliar with Cavs history and their former colors, might look like Knicks-themed shoes. But nope, the old Cavs used to sport jerseys that were bright blue with the orange block-letter Cavs, and since Lebron actually wore them with the old throwback jersey, little else was read into it.

But the newest, yet-to-be released kicks are not only a bright orange and blue - the colors of the New York Knicks - but turning over the shoes also reveals an I "LOVE" NY message on the outsole, and inside on the insole is an L23 styled question mark. There's no doubt about the message that these shoes are sending.

    Has anyone noticed...
How much better the Knicks have been playing since Mike D'Antoni glued Nate Robinson to the bench?

Sure, they lost today, but so far this month, they've looked pretty darn good.

Arena's reportedly kept guns in locker room

Wizards say Arenas had firearms in locker

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas stored unloaded firearms in a container in his locker, according to the team, and the NBA is looking into the situation.

The Wizards issued a statement Thursday night saying there was no ammunition in the locked container, and Arenas and the team have notified authorities and the league.

Officer Quintin Peterson, a spokesman for the Washington D.C. police department, said Thursday night there was no report of any active investigation involving Arenas.

The team and the three-time All-Star "are cooperating fully with law enforcement during its review of this matter and will have no further comment at this time," according to the Wizards' statement.

    CBSSportsline.com first reported the investigation.

Wizards spokesman Scott Hall wouldn't say when or where Arenas had the firearms in his locker.

The NBA's collective bargaining agreement allows for players to legally possess firearms but prohibits them at league facilities or when traveling on any league-related business.

"We're aware of the situation and are working to gain a full understanding of the facts and relevant legal issues," the NBA said in a release.

Arenas scored 18 points in Washington's 109-97 victory at Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Arenas is averaging 22.2 points after being limited to 15 games during the past two seasons following three operations on his left knee over 1 1/2 years.

Arenas, who turns 28 on Jan. 6 and is in the second season of an $111 million, six-year contract, is one of the NBA's most popular players, but the series of injuries has limited his time on the court. Nicknamed Agent Zero, he has a career average of 22.7 points over nine seasons in the NBA.

This is why lockerroom interviews are a bad idea
Laker fans got to see more of Shannon Brown than I'm sure most of them wanted to following Tuesday night's game, and the camera operator was awfully slow to notice.

Now, I like checking out a cute butt as much as the next straight woman, but I don't think most athletes want their goodies splashed all over TV and the internet.
